The Career Technical Education Center (CTEC) in Salem, Oregon, operates as a dynamic workplace environment where high school students conduct themselves as young professionals. Your team of 3-5 leaders will learn the specific strategies CTEC staff use to create a professional culture and provide explicit instruction on professional skills (i.e., soft skills, workplace readiness).
The CTEC team will also share specific systems and strategies for cultivating and maintaining robust industry partnerships. These partnerships create countless opportunities for high-wage employment, authentic work-based learning, and valuable donations. Participants will hear directly from leaders, staff, and industry partners as they craft their own strategies to employ in their local community.
CTEC exemplifies integration of CTE and core subjects with an innovative integrated curriculum model. The CTEC team has developed and fine-tuned this model over the past decade, contributing to their increase in graduation rates and student success rates on the most rigorous industry recognized credentials.
Finally, CTEC utilizes three primary work-based learning models to ensure all students in every one of their CTE programs performs authentic work for real customers and clients in the local community. Participants will experience a tour led by student ambassadors, hear a presentation on CTEC’s pillars delivered by students and staff, and participate in workshops sessions where members of the CTEC staff consult to help each school team apply the pillars to their own goals for their district.
